How is BS VI Diesel Engine Different?
The major and first difference between the existing diesel engine BS-IV and upcoming BS VI diesel engine if the presence of sulphur in the fuel of the car. On the other hand BS IV engine fuel usually contains 50 parts per million (i.e. PPM) of sulphur, while BS VI diesel engine fuel only contains 10 PPM content of sulphur. In addition, the harmful Nitrogen Oxides (i.e. NOx) coming from the diesel engine cars can be brought down by BS VI diesel engine to near 70 percent.
While in the cars with petrol engine it can be brought down to 25 %. However, when we talk about the air pollution, what matters is particulate such as PM 2.5 and PM 10 which is one of the most harmful components, as well as the BS VI, can bring the matters which can cause cancer in the diesel engine by phenomenal 80 %. This is why the makers decided to launch some of the Maruti Suzuki BS VI cars in India.
