Every year the World Happiness Report is issued by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network. The World Happiness Report calculates the data that come from the Gallup World Poll surveys . data is based on answers to the main life evaluation question asked in the poll. Happiness is calculated on the basis of six factors which are levels of GDP, life expectancy, generosity, social support, freedom, and corruption.
Why is International happiness day celebrated?
“Happiness for all, forever” is the theme for this year’s International Happiness Day. International Happiness Day is celebrated all around the world every year on 20th March. It is a United Nations designated day, that aims to recognise the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world and celebrates the special gift of happiness that we can give to each other as a part of the global community. It is a day to value your and other’s happiness and spread happiness.
The first ever International Day of Happiness was on March 20, 2013. It was founded by Jayme Illien, CEO of the United Nations New World Order project in 2006. Happiness in the world is closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.
The SDGs were set in 2015 by the UN General assembly. SDGs are designed as a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all” and these goals are intended to be achieved by 2030. Hunger, Poverty, lack of education and awareness, lack of access to affordable medical facilities and violation of human rights are some of the biggest causes of unhappiness among people in the world.
World happiness report 2021
Development is not measured only by economic growth but it is a wider spectrum that includes quality of life and happiness. A ranking of happiness in the world is released by the World Happiness Report 2021. According to the report India is among the 10 least Happy countries in the world. It has been ranked 139, out of 149 countries evaluated, in the World Happiness Report 2021. The main reasons for unhappiness can be traced such as the Covid19 pandemic, deaths, riots and Economic slowdown.
How happiness is calculated
The annual report measures happiness by relying on three main indicators: life evaluations, positive emotions, and negative emotions. In the report Finland has earned the title of the world’s happiest country and other countries like Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, and the Netherlands are in the top ten happiest countries.
As the world is fighting against a global pandemic, a ray of positivity is much needed in this hard time. So to celebrate the day, Happiness.org has launched this year a theme called Happiness For All, Forever”, this is a call on all people, nations, and society to Build Back Happier world by building a totally new economic and sustainable human development system, which should be able to successfully ensures the happiness, wellbeing, health, safety, prosperity, freedom, and flourishing of all life on earth, without any further risks of pandemics, crises, or threats to humanity, ever again.
