Yoga is Important

Yoga is not just asanas and pranayama but it is a way of life. Yoga is considered to be one of the six main systems of Indian philosophy called Shad-Darshana. It is a philosophy as well as a practical science. In this fast-paced lifestyle, yoga is all about bringing harmony between body and mind. It is an effort to maintain optimum health and fitness of both body and mind.

What is yoga

The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root word Yuj which means to join. “Yujyate anena iti yogah” – which means, “That which joins is Yoga”. Yoga is joining the individual consciousness (or Jivatma) to the Universal Consciousness (Paramatma). In much simpler words yoga is about maintaining harmony between mind and body.

The science of yoga has its origin in ancient India. There is a mention  of Yoga in many ancient Indian scriptures like – Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Bhagvat Gita, Upanishads, Yoga Vasishta, Hatha Yoga Pradeepika, Gheranda Samhita, Siva Samhita, Puranas, etc. From then to till now yoga has been a part of human civilisation and to recognize its importance world wide the UN has declared 21 June as International Yoga day.
