Delhi Police Announces ₹ 1 Lakh Reward For Info On Wrestler Sushil Kumar

Delhi Police on Monday announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information that would lead to the arrest of Wrestler Sushil Kumar and of ₹50,000 on co-accused Ajay Kumar. They are wanted in connection with the murder of 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Rana in Delhi. Delhi Court has issued a non-bailable warrant against the wrestler and others involved in the case. 

An FIR has been registered against Sushil Kumar under IPC sections 302 (murder), abduction (365), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) at Model Town police station. According to police, Sushil Kumar and his associates allegedly assaulted fellow wrestler Sagar Rana and his two friends at Chhatrasal Stadium. On May 4, Sagar Rana was beaten to death in a clash involving two groups. 23-year-old Rana was a former junior national champion and is part of the senior national camp.

Earlier, Delhi Police raided Sushil’s house but had to return empty-handed. Raids were being conducted in the Delhi-NCR region and neighboring states to arrest him. Sushil Kumar is one of the most successful sportspersons in the country. The two-time Olympic medalist was employed with the Indian Railways. He was posted as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at Chhatrasal Stadium, where the brawl that led to the death of Rana took place.

Kumar, through his lawyers, had filed an anticipatory bail application, which a Delhi court rejected on Tuesday. He argued before the court that the investigation against him was biased, which has been done to harm his reputation. According to media reports, Last week, Delhi police had also issued a look-out notice against Sushil Kumar in the matter.
