% of women candidates in the fray in phase 2 polls
Women make up slightly 8.6% of the 1,198 candidates for 87 seats going to the polls in the 2024 general elections. This percentage is slightly more than the 8.2 % women representation among candidates for 102 constituencies that voted on Friday, April 19.
The Election Commission of India has worked hard over the last two years to ensure smooth and peaceful elections. The Commission interacted with political parties, enforcement agencies, all District Officers, SSPs/SPs, Divisional Commissioners, Range IGs, CS/DGPs, and other senior officers of the States/UTs. The Commission has taken a slew of decisive measures to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections. Central forces have been deployed adequately at polling stations to secure the polling process.
It happens in the same way, and it will encourage voters to come out in even greater numbers in upcoming phases.
