The government has pushed back the deadline for updating Aadhaar details for free past June 14, 2024. To access services that require Aadhaar OTP Authentication, your mobile number must be linked to your Aadhaar at an Aadhaar Centre.
According to the UIDAI website, the new deadline to update Aadhaar for free is September 14, 2024.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit special ID number given to Indian individuals using their biometric and demographic data. It ensures uniqueness by linking to biometrics, preventing duplicates, fake, or ghost identities. Each resident has a unique number tied to their biometrics, preventing fraud and ghost identities.
If your Aadhaar was given over a decade ago and hasn’t been updated, UIDAI recommends providing Identity and Address Proof documents to confirm your information. This will enhance service delivery and authentication success.
To update the details online
Step 1: visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ and login with your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Step 2: Verify the Identity and Address information shown in your profile.
Step 3: If the information in your profile is wrong
(If the details displayed in your profile are correct, please click on the tab ‘I verify that the above details are correct.’)
Step 4: Choose the identity document from the list.
Step 5: Upload it (file size under 2 MB; format: JPEG, PNG, or PDF).
Step 6: Choose the address document from the options
Step 7: Upload it (file size under 2 MB; format: JPEG, PNG, or PDF).
Then, give your consent and submit.
After updating your Aadhaar, you’ll receive an acknowledgment slip with the Update Request Number (URN). Keep the URN safe to check your update status.
You can’t upload your Aadhaar biometric data like iris, fingerprints, or facial photos online.
For Aadhaar updates:
– Date of birth can be changed once within a range of plus or minus three years from the recorded date during enrolment.
– Gender can be updated once.
