The majority of patients grappling with electrolyte deficiency, heatstroke, and high fever are being treated in Delhi hospitals, with a significant portion of them being over 65 years old. Private hospitals and small clinics are witnessing an increase in the number of patients seeking treatment for heatstroke.
According to a doctor at Lok Nayak Hospital in Delhi, the majority of those impacted by the heatwave were laborers or rickshaw pullers, with a significant number of them being over 60 years old.
In the last 72 hours, five individuals have passed away in Delhi due to the ongoing severe heatwave in the national capital. These victims succumbed to heatstroke at three different hospitals. Similarly, in Noida, over 10 people have lost their lives in the past 24 hours.
Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi have each reported one fatality. Additionally, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital currently has 36 individuals under treatment for heatwave-related conditions.
At Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP), three individuals lost their lives, including a car mechanic who tragically succumbed to heatstroke on June 16. The mechanic was admitted to the hospital on June 15 with a high fever of 106 degrees.
Another victim of heatstroke was a 70-year-old man from Bihar who, after missing his train, was wandering in the station.
LNJP hospital has admitted over seven individuals with symptoms of high fever reaching 106 to 107 degrees. Among them, five are on ventilators, and three of these patients are over 65 years old.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, the managing director of LNJP Hospital, mentioned that the majority of those affected by the heatwave were laborers or rickshaw pullers, with most of them being over 60 years old.
Many of these patients are experiencing issues like electrolyte deficiency, heatstroke, high fevers exceeding 105 degrees, and severe dehydration.
The count of individuals affected by heatstroke is on the rise in various private hospitals and small clinics across Delhi.
Dr. Gaurav Kumar, who operates a clinic in Paharganj, noted a more than twofold increase in heatwave-related cases over the past month. He highlighted that the majority of those impacted were rickshaw pullers or daily wage workers.
Fortunately, Delhi and its neighboring regions might experience some relief from the relentless heat due to an ongoing western disturbance within the next 24–48 hours.
