Maharaja is considered Vijay Sethupathi’s comeback movie not because he took a break from acting, but because it signifies his return to solo commercial success after a considerable period. Reports from industry sources indicate that Maharaja has grossed over Rs 50 crore within its first week, with more than Rs 35 crore generated from ticket sales in India alone. With this positive trajectory, Maharaja is poised to potentially cross the prestigious Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.
Many questioned Vijay Sethupathi’s ability to draw crowds after taking on supporting roles in films featuring other stars. In the past year, he portrayed the antagonist in Jawan alongside Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, a movie directed by Atlee that soared past the Rs 1000 crore mark in ticket sales. Preceding that, he portrayed the villain in Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, which amassed Rs 400 crore at the box office.
