The India Meteorological Department forecasts additional rain showers in Delhi throughout the day.

New Delhi: Several areas of Delhi experienced heavy rainfall today, providing relief from the ongoing humid weather. Footage from news agency ANI captured intense rain in Munirka, Sarita Vihar, and various other parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted further rain showers expected throughout the day.

The IMD announced on X at 7:30 AM that “light to moderate rain and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 km/h are expected in some parts of Delhi and nearby areas over the next two hours.”

The weather agency also forecasted rainfall in Ghaziabad, Noida, and Gurugram.

The long-anticipated rain arrived after Delhi and other regions in northern India endured weeks of severe heatwave conditions.

Delhi has been suffering from extreme heat, recording nine heatwave days in June this year, compared to none in 2023 and 2022.

On Wednesday, Delhi’s primary weather station at Safdarjung Observatory registered a temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, exceeding the usual by two degrees.

Monsoon Anticipated to Reach Delhi by Week’s End

A private weather agency predicted on Wednesday that the monsoon might reach Delhi by the week’s end.

Mahesh Palawat from Skymet Weather Services mentioned that the monsoon is anticipated to reach Delhi around June 29 or 30.

The IMD has not yet provided any information regarding the expected onset of the monsoon in the capital city.

The monsoon normally arrives in the city between June 27 and June 29. It arrived on June 26 last year, and the first monsoon showers of 2022 were recorded on June 30.
