Chandu Champion Box Office Day 3: The Kabir Khan-directed sports drama achieved double-digit earnings on its first Sunday.
Kabir Khan’s newest biographical sports drama, Chandu Champion, picked up steam on its first Sunday (June 16) after a modest opening on Friday, June 14. Starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead, the film experienced a nearly 40 percent increase in earnings from Saturday (June 15), bringing in Rs 10 crore on Sunday.
Industry tracker Sacnilk reports that Chandu Champion’s box office collection reached Rs 21.75 crore after three days. The film premiered on June 14, earning Rs 4.75 crore on its first day. It garnered Rs 7 crore on Saturday. On Sunday, the film had a 32.47 percent occupancy rate in Hindi, with evening shows seeing the highest attendance.
With the Eid holiday on Monday, Chandu Champion has the opportunity to sustain its box office momentum. However, it will soon compete with Nag Ashwin’s highly anticipated Kalki 2898 AD, set to release on June 27. Currently, it faces competition from the horror-comedy Munjya, which has already surpassed the Rs 50 crore mark.
Despite gaining traction on Sunday, Chandu Champion recorded Kartik Aaryan’s second-lowest opening weekend total since his debut with Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Previously, his 2023 release, Shehzada, garnered Rs 20.20 crore by the end of its first weekend. Post-pandemic, Kartik’s initial release, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, achieved Rs 55.96 crore over its debut weekend, while the romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha performed better with Rs 37.35 crore.
Chandu Champion is gaining traction thanks to positive word of mouth. One review highlights, “What makes ‘Chandu Champion’ engaging is Kabir Khan’s genuine belief in his story, transforming it into a feel-good film. It centers on heroism and realizing one’s potential, persevering despite challenges, and staying true to one’s dreams. While it may seem clichéd and corny, it resonates on a human level.
