Tesla CEO Elon Musk becomes the world’s wealthiest person with a net worth of 188.5 billion dollars. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, a ranking of the world’s 500 wealthiest people, On Thursday Musk surpassed Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, who has held the position since 2017. According to a Bloomberg report, Elon Musk’s net worth has soared by more than 150 billion dollars, over the past year, which is possibly the fastest bout of wealth creation in history.
The South Africa-born engineer is currently the chief executive of SpaceX, Tesla Motors and chairman of SolarCity. Mr Musk’s reaction was strange, in one of his tweets, he said “How strange” and “well, back to work…” over the news of becoming the wealthiest person on the planet.
In an interview last month, Musk said he wants to spend his wealth to build a city on Mars, and he has little interest in material things. In another tweet from 2018, he explains “About half my money is intended to help problems on Earth & half to help establish a self-sustaining city on Mars to ensure the continuation of life (of all species) in case Earth gets hit by a meteor as the dinosaurs or WW3 happens & we destroy ourselves”.
His company SpaceX is almost ready to send people on Mars and to build a permanent human settlement on Mars with its huge Starship rocket in 2024.
Elon Musk’s company Tesla Motors has broken a record, and after replacing Facebook, it has become the world’s 5th most valuable company in the S&P 500. On Thursday, Tesla shares jumped to hit a record high of $802.75 after opening higher at $777.63 against the previous closing price of $755.98.
49-year-old Elon Musk was born in South Africa and also held citizenship of the US and Canada. He completed his studies from Ontario and the state of Pennsylvania.
From a very early age, he had an interest in technology. At the age of 25, he had created Zip2, which is an online advertising platform and when he sold his company to Compaq Computer, he became a millionaire at the age of 30 and over the period he has become more successful.
