Vikram Sarabhai has been made a Google Doodle on his 100th birth anniversary. He was one of the greatest scientists of India. He was born on 12 August 1919. Vikram Sarabhai was one of the few scientists of his time. Today the whole country is remembering him. He is considered the father of India’s space program. He founded the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Establishment of PRL
He studied at Gujarat College before obtaining his doctorate from Cambridge University. After this, he established the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad itself. At this time, he was just 28 years old.
IIM Ahmedabad established
Along with being the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, he also founded IIM Ahmedabad with the help of industrialists from Ahmedabad. He also played an important role in the Indian Space Research Organization. Sarabhai also played a key role in the launch of the Satellite Instructional Television Experiment (SITE) When he talked to NASA in 1966.
An important role in the country’s first satellite launch
He was also instrumental in launching the country’s first satellite Aryabhata. Through the Nehru Development Institute, he played an important role in the progress of Gujarat. He was the president and member of many science and research-related institutions in India and abroad.
Was awarded several awards
Vikram Sarabhai received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1962. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1966 and the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously) in 1972. He died on December 30, 1971, near the same place where he had tested India’s first rocket. In the last week of December, he arrived in Thumba to test a Russian rocket and died while sleeping at night in a resort in Kovalam Beach.
